IN-HOME & VACATION PROPERTY FAMILY PORTRAITS

Family Portraits Where You Feel at Home

Sometimes the most meaningful setting for a family portrait is a place that’s already part of your story.

Whether it’s the home you love every day or the Park City property where everyone has gathered, we’ll create portraits that feel personal to your family and connected to the place you’re sharing.

A Portrait Setting That’s Already Yours

Your home offers something no studio or outdoor location can duplicate: a setting that already belongs to your family. It might be the room where everyone naturally gathers, a fireplace that’s been part of countless holidays, or simply a place where children and grandchildren feel comfortable being themselves. Those surroundings can add context and personality to a portrait without taking attention away from the people who matter most. And an in-home session doesn’t have to be casual. We can create something relaxed and natural, more formally composed, or a combination of both. We’ll help determine what feels right for your family and which areas of your home will photograph beautifully.

Personal

A setting with meaning Your surroundings can become part of the story without overpowering the portrait.

Comfortable

Familiar for every generation Familiar surroundings can make it easier for children, grandparents, and everyone in between to settle in.

Flexible

Formal, relaxed—or somewhere between We’ll shape the portrait around your family, your home and what you want to create.

Your Home Gives Us More Than One Setting

One advantage of creating portraits at your home is the variety it offers. A beautiful window, fireplace, staircase, or favorite room may provide one setting, while a porch, garden, or another part of the property may offer something completely different.

During the planning process, we’ll help identify the spaces that photograph well and make sense for the portraits we’re creating. You don’t need to decide which room has the best light or where everyone should stand—that’s part of what we’re there to help with.

WHEN EVERYONE IS TOGETHER

Family Gatherings in Park City

Sometimes the opportunity for a family portrait comes simply because everyone is finally in the same place. A Park City vacation, holiday gathering, anniversary, or family reunion can bring together children, grandchildren, and relatives who may live across the country. Creating the portrait at your second home or vacation property means your family can stay together and enjoy the place you’ve already chosen to gather. We’ll come to you and help determine how to make the most of the property—inside, outside, or both—while creating the full family portrait and the smaller groupings that matter to you.

One Gathering. More Than One Portrait.

Along with the full extended family, we can create portraits of grandparents with grandchildren, individual families, siblings, couples and other meaningful groupings while everyone is together.

PORTRAITS ACROSS GENERATIONS

More Than the Whole Family Together

The full family portrait may be the reason everyone gathers in front of the camera, but it doesn’t have to be the only portrait we create. When several generations are together, we’ll help plan the combinations that are important to your family—grandparents with grandchildren, siblings together as adults, individual families, couples, cousins and other relationships you may not have the opportunity to photograph very often. We plan these groupings before the session whenever possible, so the experience stays organized and relaxed while making the most of the time your family has together.

The Portraits You Might Not Think to Ask For

Part of our job is helping you think beyond the obvious groupings so you leave with a collection that reflects your family’s relationships.

FROM PORTRAIT SESSION TO FINISHED ART

Your Family Portrait Has a Life Beyond the Gathering

A family gathering at a Park City vacation home may last only a few days, but the portrait we create can become part of your family’s home for generations.

As part of the portrait experience, we’ll help you plan where to display your finished portrait, choose an appropriate size and presentation, and create something that feels at home in your space.

For this family, the portrait created while everyone was together at their Park City second home now hangs prominently in their primary residence—a daily reminder of the people and time they shared together.

A GUIDED PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE

You Don't Have to Prepare Your Home for Us

Creating a family portrait at your home involves more than simply choosing a room and gathering everyone together. We help with the planning so that when portrait day arrives, we already know where we’ll photograph, how we’ll arrange your family, and what we want to create.

Whenever possible, we’ll visit your home before the session to look at potential portrait locations, lighting, backgrounds, and the spaces available for different family groupings. That preparation helps the portrait session feel more relaxed and organized.

1: Before the Session

We plan it together

We’ll talk about who will be photographed, what you’ll wear, the types of groupings you’d like, and what you ultimately hope to create with your portraits.

2: About a Week Before

We visit your home

Whenever possible, we’ll schedule a site survey at least a week before your portrait session. We’ll walk through the home and property with you, evaluate possible locations and begin planning how we’ll use the spaces that photograph best.

3: Portrait Day

We take care of the details

Because we’ve already done much of the planning, we can concentrate on your family. We’ll arrange and pose everyone, guide expressions, work with children and different generations, and create both the full family portrait and the smaller groupings we’ve planned.

IN-HOME FAMILY PORTRAIT FAQ

Questions About Family Portraits at Your Park City Home

Does our home need to be professionally decorated or especially large?

Not at all. We aren’t looking for a perfect house—we’re looking for spaces that work well for your family and the portraits we’re creating. During our planning and site visit, we’ll consider the light, backgrounds, furnishings and available space and determine the best possibilities.

How do you decide where in our home to photograph?

Whenever possible, we’ll visit the property about a week before your session. This gives us an opportunity to look at the rooms, available light, furnishings and outdoor areas and begin planning the portrait before everyone gathers.

If an advance visit isn’t possible, we’ll allow time to evaluate the property before we begin photographing.

Can we create portraits both inside and outside?

Absolutely. One advantage of photographing at your home is the options we have. Depending on the property, weather, and time of year, we may create portraits indoors, on a porch, in a garden, or elsewhere around the property.

Can you photograph a large extended family in our home?

Yes. Extended and multigenerational families are an important part of what we do. We’ll plan for the entire family as well as smaller groupings, which might include grandparents with grandchildren, individual families, siblings, couples and other relationships that are meaningful to you.

What if we're staying in a rented vacation home in Park City?

That’s very common, especially during the holidays and family gatherings. You don’t need to own a home in Park City to have your portrait created there.

We photograph families at second homes as well as rented vacation properties. If you’re staying in a rental, we’ll work with the spaces available and can also consider appropriate areas immediately around the property. You’ll just want to make sure photography is permitted at the property.

How far in advance should we schedule our family portrait?

The earlier we start planning, the better—especially during holidays and other popular times when extended families gather in Park City.

Advance planning also gives us time to coordinate clothing, understand the family groupings you want photographed, and, when possible, visit the property before portrait day.

What should our family wear for an in-home portrait?

We’ll help you plan clothing as part of the portrait experience. Rather than having everyone dress identically, we generally look for clothing that coordinates comfortably across the family and works with both the setting and the finished portrait you’re envisioning.

What happens after our portrait session?

We’ll guide you through selecting the portraits you love and deciding how you’d like to enjoy them in your home. That may include a finished wall portrait, a collection of images or an album that tells more of your family’s story.
