Before we decide where to photograph your family or what everyone should wear, we talk about how you’d like to enjoy your finished portraits. Our Park City family portrait experience starts with a conversation about what you hope to create.
Perhaps you envision one beautiful portrait above the fireplace. Maybe you’d like a collection for a particular wall, or an album that tells your family’s story at this moment in time.
Knowing where we’re headed helps us make thoughtful decisions about everything that comes before it — the setting, clothing, composition, even the orientation and proportions of the photographs we create.
Instead of leaving those decisions until after your session, we plan for them from the beginning.

Your Design Consultation
Every Walsh portrait experience begins with a conversation. Your Design Consultation gives us time to learn about your family, talk about what you’d like to create, and make the decisions that will shape your portrait session.
We’ll discuss where your portraits might be displayed, the setting that best fits your family, clothing, and other details, so on portrait day, you can simply enjoy the experience.

Planning Your Portrait Session
Once we understand what you’d like to create, we’ll help plan a portrait session that feels right for your family.
From choosing the setting and time of day to coordinating clothing, we’ll guide you through the decisions that can otherwise feel overwhelming. The goal isn’t to make everything perfect. It’s to make sure you’re prepared, comfortable and able to enjoy being together.

In-Home Portraits
Sometimes the most meaningful setting is your own home. In-home portraits can feel especially personal because they’re created where your family’s everyday life happens.

STEP THREE
Your Portrait Session
On portrait day, we’ve already planned everything. You know where we’re going, what everyone is wearing, and what we’re hoping to create.
During the session, we’ll guide you through everything. You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about whether everyone is looking at the camera at exactly the right moment. We’ll give you direction when you need it and create space for the natural expressions and connections that make your family yours.
Children can be unpredictable. Someone may feel a little uncomfortable in front of the camera. That’s all part of photographing real families, and we’ll work with it rather than against it.
Your job is simply to be together. We’ll take care of the rest.
STEP FOUR
Choosing Your Portraits
After your portrait session, we’ll bring you back to the studio to see your photographs and help you choose the images that mean the most to you.
Rather than leaving you with a gallery of images and a long list of decisions to make on your own, we’ll guide you through the selection process. We’ll compare expressions, narrow your favorites, and help you decide which photographs work best together.
If you’re considering artwork for your walls, we’ll also help you think through size, proportion and placement so you can make those decisions with confidence.
You’ll leave knowing exactly what you’ve chosen and why it works for your family and your home.

Creating Artwork for Your Home
Your portraits aren’t meant to live only on a screen. We’ll help you turn the images you love into finished artwork designed for your home.
Whether you’re considering one statement portrait, a collection of images for a particular wall, or an album to enjoy for generations, we’ll help you choose the presentation that fits your family, your home, and the photographs we’ve created together.

For local clients, we provide complimentary delivery and professional installation of your wall portraits. We’ll make sure everything is placed at the height and location we planned, so you don’t have to measure, level, or wonder if you got it right.
It’s the final step in a process designed to make creating meaningful family portraits as simple and enjoyable as possible.

We’ll learn about your family, talk about what you’d like to create, and discuss where your finished portraits might be displayed. We’ll also help you think through location, clothing, timing and the other details that shape your portrait session.
The goal is to have the important decisions made before portrait day so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Do you help us decide what to wear for family portraits?
Yes. Clothing is part of the planning process, and we’ll help you coordinate colors and styles that work well together, complement your portrait setting, and keep the attention on your family.
During your Design Consultation, we’ll share our Clothing Guide and talk through your options. You don’t need everyone to match—we’ll help you create a cohesive look that feels natural for your family.
How do we choose between outdoor, in-home and studio family portraits?
We’ll help you choose a setting based on your family, the feeling you’d like your portraits to have, and what you ultimately hope to create.
Outdoor and location portraits can incorporate Park City’s mountains, meadows, and seasons. In-home portraits offer a personal setting that’s already part of your family’s story. Studio portraits provide a timeless, controlled environment where the attention stays entirely on the people being photographed.
What if our children—or husbands—don't cooperate during the portrait session?
Children—and occasionally husbands—don’t need to behave perfectly for us to create meaningful portraits. We’ve spent decades photographing families and understand that everyone has their own personality, mood, and level of enthusiasm about being photographed.
We’ll give everyone time to become comfortable, adjust when something isn’t working, and keep the experience relaxed. Some of the most meaningful expressions happen when families stop worrying about perfection and simply enjoy being together.
What happens after our family portrait session?
After your session, you’ll return to the studio to view your photographs and choose the images that mean the most to you. We’ll guide you through comparing expressions, narrowing your favorites and deciding which photographs work well together.
If you’re creating artwork for your home, we’ll also help you consider size, proportion and placement so you can make those decisions with confidence.
Can you show us how our portraits will look on our walls?
Yes. We can use a photograph of your wall to show your portraits at scale in the space where they’ll actually be displayed. This helps you compare sizes and arrangements before making your final decision.
We’ll show you how to photograph and measure your wall so we have the information needed to create an accurate visualization.
Do you deliver and install finished wall portraits?
Yes. Complimentary delivery and professional installation of wall portraits are part of the Walsh portrait experience for clients throughout Summit County, the Heber area, and Salt Lake City.
We’ll place your finished portraits in the location and at the height we planned together, so you don’t have to worry about measuring, leveling, or hanging them yourself.
We can also arrange delivery and installation in other parts of Utah. If you’re outside our usual service area, just ask, and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
